National Renewable Energy Laboratory

MRIGlobal provides a full set of management, laboratory operations, and business functions to deliver innovative technologies in energy, health, and national security.

In addition to operating its own laboratories and facilities across the nation, MRIGlobal manages and operates laboratories for the US Department of Energy and other agencies. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a federally-funded research and development corporation. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, NREL conducts scientific and engineering research in energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable power technologies. NREL advances the science and engineering of energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable power technologies and provides the knowledge to integrate and optimize energy systems.

our HIstory

A history of excellence

As the management and operating contractor, the Alliance for Sustainable Energy is fully accountable to the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for assuring NREL’s performance. Over time, we facilitated research, development, and deployment of a wide variety of projects in renewable power, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency, and energy systems integration.

MRIGlobal is one of two partners in the Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC, which manages the laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy. MRIGlobal has managed and operated NREL since 1977 when the laboratory came into existence as the Solar Energy Research Institute. NREL is the nation’s only laboratory dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. From breakthroughs in fundamental science to new clean technologies to integrated energy systems that power our lives, NREL researchers are transforming the way the nation and the world use energy.
